Here at I-COM we provide our clients with a link building strategy that usually incorporates some form of niche directories or blogs. Many clients often ask “How can a niche directory be beneficial?”and “What exactly will it entail?”.

As previously mentioned on the I-COM Blog - FAQ: Why Should I Submit My Site to Online Directories? – This blog post is aimed at helping you with the in’s and out’s of niche directories.

What are Niche Directories/Blogs?

A niche directory is a topical directory that has been established for companies that wish to target niche audiences. These categories have a variety of topics including legal, recruitment, news, business and shopping.

Niche blogs follow a similar approach to niche directories and are often set up by academics, professionals or experts who regularly blog about a specialised topic/hobby.

Posting content on these blogs and directories will enable a company, such as a legal firm, to specifically target niche markets or audiences.

An example of this can be seen within I-COM client Grieves Solicitors, who wished to target their personal injury area to niche legal blogs and directories. Seen within the example below they are listed as personal injury specialists within a popular law magazine and blog, Insight Law.

How can a Niche Directory benefit my company?

Niche directories enable companies to really hone in on specific demographics they wish to target. A niche directory can work well for companies also wishing to target more than one specific area, for instance law firms who specialise in Personal Injury, Employment Law and Family Law may wish to submit to company to several niche directories.

Submitting a website to niche directories can prove to be beneficial from both a company and an SEO perspective:

1. Search Engine Results:
Listing your site within a relevant subject area of a quality niche directory will help to further establish your company within search engine results – thus adding further credibility to your site and encouraging higher rankings.

2. Niche Links:
When submitting a company to a niche directory a specific link is also submitted. Submitting this link will also enable a client to be found for the specialist service they wish to promote.

For instance JMW Solicitors may wish to target customers as specialists in clinical negligence legal services as well as a full service law firm. As a result of this they would find a niche directory or blog focussed around legal issues and topics and submit the specific link, e.g. www.jmw.co.uk/services-for-you/clinical-negligence.

3. Establishing Your Brand:
When adding a specific link to niche directories the client is able to promote and establish their brand, target specific customers and ensure they are placed alongside competitors.
