Only last year Richard and Judy were, The Guardian argued, the most important people in publishing. An endorsement by the Richard & Judy Book Club on Channel 4 was enough to increase sales of a novel by as much as 3,000%.
The couple now present their daily show on an obscure cable channel called Watch for an audience that just about gets into five figures and the power of the Richard & Judy Book Club appears to be on the wane. A new report shows that while the couple's recommended titles make up at least half of the 10 most-borrowed library books in the Midlands and south of England, they are now ignored in northern England, Northern Ireland,Scotland and Wales.
I guess this is a great example of why it is so important to have your visibility in all the right places (both offline and online) and also to understand your audience. While the format hasn't changed for the Book Club, obviously the target market has.
Good SEO and online marketing is all about understanding what people want and presenting them with the right information in the right place at the right time - something that Richard and Judy seem to have forgotten in their move.
