There have been numerous statistics released about the micro-blogging site Twitter. One in particular, released last September found it to have more than 145 million registered users.

It continued to discuss how Twitter has 300,000 new people signing up every day, with 180 million unique visitors coming to the site each month.

These results are an indication to companies that now is the perfect time to start using relevant social networks (if you're not already) to communicate and promote your company's brand and services.

3. Industry News
: Twitter is a constant news stream that enables clients to keep up to date industry news and changes.

Hi,

Sorry I've been away for a while (new work regime means that blog commenting/reading becomes almost non-existent). Anyway....is this related to #mancseo's efforts against the not-so-good recruitment bodies??

Hi James, nice to see you back.

We work with a number of recruitment agencies and they're all starting to use social media a lot more to find candidates and offer them advice. As we've been doing a lot of training with our recruitment industry clients on how to use social media - including etiquette - we thought we'd share a bit of knowledge in the hope of encouraging more recruiters to think about the ways in which they use social media, and how they could use it more effectively (as opposed to random inmail on LinkedIn offering irrelevant jobs).

It's good for recruiters and it's good for the rest of us if they are doing it in ways which encourage and help jobseekers rather than irritate them.

An interesting read. Can you explain how, posting my jobs on twitter, will attract candidates, as opposed to traditional advertising on job boards, and very targeted job postings in industry specific groups on linkedin?

Hi Sam, thanks for commenting.

If you're going to use Twitter as a recruiter, you need to think about it as the face, or personality, of your business. Think about the tone and content of your account and how you want your business to be perceived; if you are posting news articles about the sector you recruit for, add your own opinion; think about what appeals to your target market and what makes them laugh; think about the kinds of content they'd find useful; make yourself appear magnanimous, willing to help people in a tough jobs market.

If you make candidates like you as a business, they're far more likely to pay attention to your vacancies when you post them. LinkedIn and targeted jobs boards are still worthwhile, obviously, but Twitter is an opportunity for you to grow your company's brand. Rather than simply a method of filling positions, you need to think about it more like traditional marketing and PR, a way for you to reach a wider audience within your target market.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions feel free to give us a ring on 0161 402 3170.

James
