I have been monitoring with interest Google's response and actions regarding the sensitive subject of Click Fraud. There seems to be a welcome and interesting change underway with those nice people at Google, a far more open approach.
This is good news because probably the biggest reason people avoid Pay per Click (PPC) Advertising is the fear of Click Fraud. Click Fraud refers to people, maybe competitors, constantly clicking on your ads - the implication being that you’re paying for visitors who are never going to purchase from you.
I get asked by clients or prospective clients about this on a regular basis and my response is always the same:
Don't worry about it. we monitor for unusual activity but more importantly, Google has been very good in detecting it and then compensating. This should not be a reason for not doing PPC advertising!!
There is no doubt that the subject of Click Fraud has probably been the biggest source of negative publicity that Google has faced, or the fear of it is a significant threat to Google. It’s no surprise therefore that they have invested both money and some of their best talent in tackling it. Find out more at the "Google Ad Traffic Quality Resource Center" that Google has set up to inform and educate on how Google are tackling this issue - it's interesting reading.
