OK so I didn't spend a lot of time on Google+ when it was launched, but I liked the circles feature, the hangout feature - I especially liked the idea of being in a huddle.

People keep telling me it's technically better. I know its integration with Android is excellent. The idea of + Photos is superb (if a little scary - so be careful who you're pictured with!). But I'm not going to leave Facebook quite yet.

What I don't like is the idea of having to recreate all my friends/contacts in a new system, when I already have a perfectly useable one in Facebook. Why should I spend my time and effort to help build Google's social network when I already belong to a network which is ok?

Like most people I'm perfectly happy with FB - it gives me exactly what I want - news and info about my family, friends, colleagues and groups. I filter out all the rubbish - farmville requests etc.

In order for me to use Google Plus I'd want to be able to port all my FB family, friends, colleagues and newsfeeds into Google Plus with one simple click. Now I'm pretty sure Facebook won't allow such easy access to this information - so we can count this feature out in the short term.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of the functionality that Google Plus now has will be added into FB over the next coming months. Probably another reason for not going over to Google Plus yet.

What are other people's thoughts and opinions?

There was a way to import your Facebook contacts on Google+ but it has now been blocked by Facebook, for obvious reasons. You can read the Mashable article here - http://mashable.com/2011/07/04/google-plus-contacts/

and the one about Facebook blocking it here - http://mashable.com/2011/07/05/facebook-blocks-friend-exporter-plugin/

If there was one for Twitter do you think Twitter would block that?

I think there will be a place for both. I could see myself using Google+ for my close, and current, group of friends. As well as networking, because lets face it, only HR staff and CEOs use LinkedIn.

I've always seen Facebook as people you used to know, Google + could take the mantle of people you currently know.

My hatred of Facebooks utter disregard for privacy and personal data and their casual attitude towards intellectual property knows no bounds - so any chance I have of moving away from Facebook to ANYWHERE ELSE is a Good Thing.

While Google do have way too much of my data - I don't think this is giving them anything more than they already knew, it just puts it in one place - their attitude towards personal data is a bit better in that they'll use it for themselves but they don't make it public unless you tell them its ok, and they're less likely to sell it on for profit to someone else.

For that reason alone (and the Android integration) - I hope this kills Facebook dead.

You can get your Facebook contacts details into Google+, but you have to use Yahoo! as a middle man. Login any Yahoo! mail account, contacts > import contacts > Facebook.

Then in Google+ go to Circles > Find and Invite > Find friends: Yahoo! and you're sorted.

You could have shortened that whole blogpost to - "I'm lazy", haha.

I think this is the main reason while many folks won't use Google+ - Facebook.

Too late Google. :)
