Last week Google announced it was once again planning to make changes to its search algorithm. It’s become well-known within the SEO industry that Google is forever tweaking and changing its methods, meaning online businesses need to be on the ball to ensure their site is doing well in the rankings. The latest change aims to make search results more relevant and could impact an estimated 35% of searches on the internet.

Built on Google’s web indexing system, Caffeine, users will now be able to find newer, more relevant information from broader searches with recently published posts surfacing much faster in search. So, for example, searches for regularly repeated events such as ‘The Olympics’ will now direct you to pages displaying the most recent and relevant information on the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.

But how will this affect your website and the potential clients who find you on Google?

Well, Google’s likely end goal from this is to encourage web publishers and content writers to keep their content as fresh and up-to-date as possible, especially as it relates to the recent news and events that are regularly updated.

The new search algorithm will likely affect the traffic of age old websites and will hopefully be giving new publishers a fair chance to get to the top of Google organic search results.

How To Prevent Your Website From Dropping Down In The Rankings

Here are a few tips to ensure your website stays on top:

•    Make sure you are regularly checking and updating the content on every page of your website to ensure it’s fresh, organic and relevant.

•    Regularly research hot topics and current trends that are relevant to your company and clients to add comments on your site’s blog page and news section. Most online trends only last for a short period, so be sure to check often.

•     It’s important not to get complacent when writing content for your webpage, as it gives many sites an excuse to increase the amount of poorly written, irrelevant material and as a result, decreases its relevancy. Be sure to keep your webpage’s content interesting, informative and relevant.
